July has been a busy month of racing for #BIKEDOCTOR Rider Angela Green on board her new Cube Carbon 29er
"I represented the Isle of Wight in the Natwest Island Games in Jersey as part of the ladies mountain bike team. This event is like a mini version of the Olympic games bringing together small islands from around the world of a selected size and population to compete in many different sports. I've been 3 times previous when I used to play football so wanted to be part of this event again but in my new sport cycling, which I took up 4 years ago. I came 8th in the MTB cross-country race which took place on some steep and dusty gradients of Jubilee hill in 32 degrees of heat- it was pretty tough. 2 days later I raced in the MTB Criterium in People's park- a new MTB discipline which seems to be popping up around the country at the moment. Its was similar to cross-country in the completion of laps following a mass start but it was on a short technical course with some interesting obstacles. It made for a crowd pleaser, there were hundreds of people watching and like the cross country- was a great atmosphere. I was in 5th place after 4 laps but unfortunately got some course tape stuck in my rear cassette forcing me to stop and pick it out which cost 3 minutes and time for the entire field to pass me. I managed to pick my way back 4 places and finish in 10th place. Happy with the effort but less so with the result, but that's bike racing!
This weekend I completed the last race in the Welsh MTB Cross country Series in Nant-yr-Arian. Having won the South Wales winter series in Pembrey earlier in the year in the Sport Women's Category, I was aiming for a top 3 in sport women in the Welsh series which takes place between march and July. Last season I finished 4th so wanted one better this year, so first was a nice bonus! Having crashed and hurt myself in the warm-up, I focused on just finishing since that's all I needed to do with a good lead on points already in the bag- job done!
